Dimitrov advances via retirement, Youzhny ousts Andujar Grigor Dimitrov is through to the Roland Garros second round after getting a retirement from Alejandro Falla. Mikhail Youzhny also moves on, overcoming Pablo Andujar in four sets.

    (26) Grigor Dimitrov d. Alejandro Falla 6-4, 1-0, retired

Dimitrov advanced to the second round of the French Open on Tuesday afternoon when Falla called it quits with an elbow injury after 58 minutes of play. Falla had led 4-3 with a break and was serving at 40-0, but it went downhill from there in a hurry for the veteran Colombian. Dimitrov managed to break back, held for 5-4, then broke again to steal the first set.

The 22-year-old Bulgarian survived a deuce game for 1-0 in the second and had a 0-30 lead in the second game before Falla waved the white flag. Next up for Dimitrov is Lucas Pouille, a straight-set winner over fellow wild card Alex Kuznetsov. The Dimitrov-Paire winner will almost certainly run into world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the third round.

    (29) Mikhail Youzhny d. Pablo Andujar 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3

With a draw that is there for the taking, Youzhny and Andujar both had a big opportunity heading into their Tuesday encounter. Andujar showed early signs of being the one to convert, but Youzhny roared from behind to prevail in three hours and 13 minutes.

After dropping the first set, the 30-year-old Russian took the second and third without too much trouble. Andujar appeared to be on the fast track to an exit when he trailed 5-1 in the fourth. However, the 45th-ranked Spaniard broke for 2-5, saved seven match points to hold for 3-5, fought off one more match point on his opponent's serve, and even had two break points to get all the way back on level terms. Youzhny, though, finally capitalized on his ninth opportunity to book a second-round meeting with Federico Delbonis.
