  • Federer working on Grand Slam longevity mark

    5/27/13 4:44 PM | Johan Lindahl
Federer working on Grand Slam longevity mark With the French Open up and running, Roger Federer has already moved closer to another record as he competes in his 54th consecutive major.

The 31-year-old is enjoying an nearly unparalleled run of consistency stretching back to January, 2000, at the Australian Open. It's the most of any current player.

Two more appearances, in Wimbledon and the US Open this season, and he ties the record of 56 set by South African Wayne Ferreira from 1991-2004. "I've never been really close to ever missing one, I've never pulled out of any live match," said Federer, still hunting for his first title since last August. "I've only pulled out of two tournaments in my career.

"For me, it's just something I just kept on doing. I never thought I was going to play that many, have that many opportunities to do well at the slams.

"In a Slam where you know you're going to enter best-of-five-set matches over two, three weeks, you have to be at your best and you need to feel like you can compete with the best at the highest of levels for a long period of time."

Hahaha! He is trying alright very hard alright, with soft draws and selfish scheduling he may just succeed, but only just........

rafaisthebest , 5/27/13 8:49 PM

Hopefully the truth will come out sometime. And then Fed will be dubbed a cheater!

holdserve , 5/27/13 9:57 PM

c'mon guys, cut him some slack. He's won 17 GS :)

Shireling , 5/27/13 10:32 PM

When only the top ranked players get together at the end of the year Nadal is revealed as merely an endurance athlete with very little tennis acumen.

stratocast51 , 5/27/13 10:35 PM

How does year end prove Rafa has very little tennis acumen?
Every year when the draws are out especially last year, it is revealed that Fed is a cheater! Disgraceful, the way the draws were rigged last year at Wimbly, Olympics and O2. All in London.
If Rafa had such cakewalk draws he too would waltz at the end of the year.
Ferrer has more endurance than Rafa but look at his h2h with Fed and Rafa's h2h. The difference? Rafa has outstanding tennis acumen. Even the Fedbots in the media are forced to acknowledge it.
But strato, I understand. You know your hero is a fake GOAT. That makes you insecure and to feel good you make delusional statements about Rafa. Obviously you being delusional you don't feel the need to for facts or figures.

holdserve , 5/27/13 11:02 PM

The fake GOAT's wins have no value as they are based on rigged draws and unfairly fixed favorable schedules.
Followers of Fed are all losers.

holdserve , 5/28/13 12:17 AM

You seem to follow him meticulously. I see your point.

chr18 , 5/28/13 2:07 AM

@ seventeen

The more you undermine Rafa the more you demean your hero, Fed!!! There is no question that Fed is one of the greatest tennis players who ever lived, he is indeed a legend!! He has brought so much to tennis so it is really difficult not to like and respect him.

However, as a devout Rafa fan, if you summise that Rafa has no tennis acumen then how come he beats Roger so often than not?! What does that say then about Roger? How comes Roger finds it so hard to beat someone who you say has no tennis acumen considering Roger himself is the so-called GOAT?!! See where Im going with this?..............

So why dont you try to respect all the players and give them their due. Consistantly belittling Rafa will NEVER erase the H2H between him and Roger. Its not Rafa's fault that he has the game to beat Roger!!!!! Blame it on Roger who refused to adjust his game to be able to beat Rafa like Novak did!

So, after all is said and done, it is Roger who seems not to have the tennis acumen you speak of!!

Noble effort Monalysa but logic is wasted on the troll zombie.

Monalysa, 5/28/13 2:16 AM,

I have tried to make this exact argument a number of times in the past both on this site and elsewhere.

It's a really strong argument which for some reason seems to have gone right over the heads of these over the top Fed fans. Every time they trash Rafa, they are dissing their own player who has a lopsided losing h2h against him.

However, Conspirator is right. You are a nice person who made a reasonable argument. But they will never hear you.

Nativenewyorker , 5/28/13 3:31 AM

The Iron Man and Super Man of tennis, Mr. Federer. Keep it going champ.

The greatest icon tennis has ever produced.

mara002 , 5/28/13 5:15 AM

I do think this @seventeen needs the Banhammer, though. I haven't seen quite this odious a troll on these boards in awhile.

mara002 , 5/28/13 5:17 AM

@mara002, I don't mind tweaking the draws at all, as long as we all acknowledge that it does take place. It is blatantly clear it takes place. In the case of Federer in his twilight years it sort of levels the playing field, no?

rafaisthebest , 5/28/13 6:26 AM

mara002, 5/28/13 5:17 AM,

May I ask what the "Banhammer" is? Is it something that will rid us of this, as you so succinctly put it, "this odious troll"?

I am in favor of anything that might help. It's really sickening to read this repetitive, one-note gibberish.

Nativenewyorker , 5/28/13 9:08 AM

Mara: Definitely head of the current league table. The vicious goading of Lucky, who was not even around at the time, was the final straw as far as I was concerned.

ed251137 , 5/28/13 11:32 AM

^ ed, that attack plus Lucky's absence made me think this poster has been trolling for a long, long time.
17=age/IQ/shoe size etc?

deuce , 5/28/13 11:43 AM

^^^^ Exactly.

I wonder if the same weedkiller will work again.

ed251137 , 5/28/13 12:06 PM

Rafa as batman, would make sense, but unfortunately the scum that calls themselves rafafans around here, have reduced him to Kryptonite-man, constantly parading rafa as Roger's nemesis, which is sad for the good Rafa fans, because Rafa actually has his own achievements. 11 slams, albeit 7 of them - like most of his achievements are on a surface/slam that has always been inferior to Wimbledon/grass. 100 weeks at number 1, though it pales in comparison to connor's/lendl/sampras/federer's achievements still puts him in top 10 of all time.

I could understand Davydenko or Rosol fans trying to piggyback their rides on beating HoF, but it is sad to see fans trying to do so just because their guy is constantly 2nd in every other meaningful statistic. Then again, there is a reason they are called rafatards!

Let us not forget Rafa is too uncivilised/uncouth to ever pull-off Bruce Wayne. Mr. Djokovic is better suited for that. Rafa's most apt role is Tarzan(I think either Tignor/weirtheim/some other prominent writer suggested this)

Marat as Iron Man/Tony Stark - now that makes sense. He would have achieved as much as Federer and definitely more than kneedal, if he had an uncle who could have kept him on a leash. Then again, Marat is a force of nature - cannot be tamed.

Fedkovic23 , 5/28/13 3:32 PM

i can't picture superman crying when losing a fight...

phoenix , 5/28/13 3:44 PM

Gosh, the Greatest Clayourt Player of all time, the only active player with the Golden Slam and the Greatest Masters Player of all time is said to come 2nd in any meaningful statistics.

Just proves that some people need to have their powers of reasoning checked out.

nadline , 5/28/13 3:46 PM

Still can't stop LAUGHING. Can't get that profile pic of yours out of my head FedTwenty.

Davydenko-Rafa or Rosol-Rafa h2h can hardly be considered significant. To compare it with a significant h2h ( at least 20 matches) like Rafa-Fed ( most of which was in finals) once again underlines the hydra's subzero intelligence.
Hey Hydra please donate your brain to Science. Must be the only example of subzero IQ.

holdserve , 5/28/13 3:55 PM

Fedkovic23, take heart. Fed will always have the likes Carreno-Busta to dominate.

nadline , 5/28/13 3:58 PM

We can all picture tarzan being whipped by his uncle for not cleaning the courts, though.

Rafatards, please get back to doing what Nole ordered you rafatards to do, in madrid!

Fedkovic23 , 5/28/13 4:50 PM

Fedkovic just because you know so much (somehow) about child abuse doesn't mean we want to hear about your projected experience. You uncle must have been a bad man.

Djokogod , 5/28/13 5:08 PM

FedTwenty, stop polishing your gun.
