  • Djokovic through easily against Dolgopolov

    5/16/13 2:01 PM | Cheryl Murray
Djokovic through easily against Dolgopolov Novak Djokovic secured another routine win at the Rome Masters, taking out Alexandr Dolgopolov on a day when rain threatens play.

Alexandr Dolgopolov, ranked No. 23 in the world, was out-matched in this third round encounter, with Djokovic winning 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The first set was a hot mess for Dolgopolov, who could barely keep the ball in play. And even though he had a break point opportunity, the Ukrainian man never got a toehold in the set. Djokovic snagged a pair of service breaks and Dolgopolov's lackluster performance was all the more obvious because Djokovic was crisp and efficient.

Dolgopolov was better in the second set, but Djokovic got the break of serve straight away, keeping the momentum firmly on his side of the court.

The Ukrainian seemed to wake up a bit mid-way through the set, even earning a pair of service breaks, but Djokovic served too well for Dolgopolov to take advantage.

Djokovic awaits the winner of Kevin Anderson and Tomas Berdcyh in the quarters.

Gilberts Syndrom causes extreme fatigue and loss of concentration. If Dolgo was having a bad day then it would have been a virtual walkover for Djokovic.
