Wawrinka withdraws, Dolgopolov through to Rome third round Stanislas Wawrinka has withdrawn from the Rome Masters prior to stepping on the court for his second round matchup against Alexandr Dolgopolov.

Stanislas Wawrinka, after weeks of winning tennis, has opted to withdraw from the Rome Masters so that he can rest up for a run at Roland Garros in just over a week's time.

The Swiss was on a nine-match win streak headed into the Madrid final, where he lost in straight sets to Rafael Nadal. Wawrinka was pushed to three sets by Argentine qualifier Carlos Berlocq.

Alexandr Dolgopolov will now slip into the spot opposite top seed Novak Djokovic in the round of 16.
