  • Madrid trial of Tomic dad set for October

    5/15/13 3:48 AM | Johan Lindahl
Madrid trial of Tomic dad set for October John Tomic is reportedly free to leave Spain after his Madrid trail for assaulting his son Bernard's hitting partner was postponed - but the tennis bad dad is still expected back to face the bench in October.

That was the ruling of a Spanish judge, who re-scheduled the legal proceedings after alleged victim Thomas Drouet of France, proved unable to travel for this week's original day in court.

The question as to what the senior Tomic might do to pass the time remains open, with his credentials for ATP events now suspended along with those for the upcoming French Open with Wimbledon expected to follow suit. The 52nd-ranked Bernard Tomic will take a ranking hit as a result of his father's actions after withdrawing from this week's mandatory Masters 1000 in Rome.

Drouet was allegedly attacked by John Tomic at the Madrid Masters in a sidewalk incident which left the Frenchman with a broken nose and neck injuries. John Tomic pleads self-defense, according to his lawyers.

"Since the plaintiff has not dropped the proceedings, the hearing is postponed for reasons of court scheduling until October," the Madrid court said in a statement. The senior Tomic faces a possible sentence of between three months and three years in prison.

Now he has come out and said Bernie might not play at RG this year. What kind of a father is this? He is holding his son's career hostage to his warped drama..........

The whole thing is very, very sad for young Bernard. There is a clear abuser/victim dynamic going on here. I don't think the ATP will relent any time soon, so I hope that John doesn't think to keep Bernie from playing until he can come back. That could be a looonggg time.

Sad.

^^how old is Bernard tonic?!?
I'm sorry but a person economically self sustaining as he apparently is and in his er early twenties or whatever, and more so a 'rebel', should be more than capable of giving his abusive hanger on parent the boot!
For like ever!
No need for an LA child performer divorce type situation.
After 18 you are on your own.
Grow a pair 'bad boy'
Jeez!

Twinge , 5/15/13 11:05 PM

Oh lala
I meant Bernard TOMIC,
imagine me saying 'tonic'
What was I thinking...

Twinge , 5/15/13 11:13 PM

Oh, give the boy a break, Twinge! The boy is clearly under some dark influences here......very, very dark.

rafaisthebest , 5/15/13 11:21 PM

Okay I'm sympathetic,
The father is a real %#%#
But Tomic is a big (bad) boy now too,
With speeding tickets to prove it!
Time to cut the man purse strings methinks.
Come on now..
