• Cilic breezes past Golubev

    5/14/13 12:13 AM | Cheryl Murray
Cilic breezes past Golubev Marin Cilic got off to a good start at the Rome Masters, with an easy straight-set win over Andrey Goubev.

Marin Cilic has already bested his Madrid result with his win over Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev. Cilic was ousted in the first round last week at the Madrid Masters to wildcard Pablo Andujar.

But he played well on Monday, securing a 6-4, 6-2 win over world No. 195 Golubev. Cilic played well on the big points, fighting off all four of the break point opportunities against his serve and converting three of five chances against Golubev's.

The No. 11 seed will take on in-form South African Kevin Anderson in the second round as he attempts to save his clay season with a decent run on the road to Roland Garros.
