    Grigor Dimitrov d. Marcos Baghdatis 6-3, 6-4

Dimitrov kept up his hot streak by beating Baghdatis in one hour and six minutes during first-round action at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia on Sunday. The 21-year-old Bulgarian, a quarterfinalist in Monte-Carlo and an upset winner over Novak Djokovic in the Madrid second round, improved his record to 4-1 against Baghdatis--including 3-0 already this season.

Baghdatis had lost both of their previous matches in three sets, but he is in a massive slump right now and he went away in much quieter fashion this time. The 38th-ranked Cypriot double-faulted on break point at 2-3 in the first set and never really recovered. Dimitrov gave his opponent a few more chances in the second, but he saved two break points early and fought off two more while serving for the match at 5-4. Next up for the world No. 28 is Richard Gasquet.

    (9) Richard Gasquet d. Sam Querrey 6-2, 7-6(8)

This week's Rome event has barely gotten off the ground and it has already been a rough one for Americans. Joining John Isner in making a Sunday exodus out of the draw was Querrey, who went down to Gasquet in one hour and 30 minutes. Gasquet won 83 percent of his first-serve points and saved all three of the break points he faced.

Querrey struggled mightily in the opening set. The world No. 18 surrendered his serve twice and won only five points in four return games. He fared much better in the second, fighting off one break point and managing to force a tiebreaker without too much trouble. Querrey had chances to extend things to a third, but Gasquet kept his nerve and battled through the 'breaker 10 points to eight.
