Gimeno-Traver retires, Andujar into Madrid quarters Wildcard Pablo Andujar has made the most of his opportunity in Madrid, as he benefited from an injured Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who was forced to retire during their round of 16 match.

It was an abbreviated Spaniard vs. Spaniard match on Thursday in Madrid. Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who had been having a great week to this point, as forced out of the tournament at 5-5 in the first set against Pablo Andujar with a thigh injury.

Andujar's ranking has fallen to No. 114 in the world, low enough that the former top 50 player had to rely on a wildcard to gain access to the tournament.

He will take on Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals, the Japanese man who dispatched defending champion Roger Federer in their third-round match.
