    Ferrer outlasts Haas, Berdych advances World No. 4 David Ferrer made the final eight in Madrid after holding off fellow seed Tommy Haas. The veteran is joined in the quarterfinal by world No. 6 David Ferrer, who defeated South Africa's Kevin Anderson.

    Fourth seed David Ferrer is through to the quarterfinal after holding on to defeat 13th seed Tommy Haas. The 31-year-old veteran tallied seven aces and three service breaks through two hours and 10 minutes of play. Haas struggled on second serve in the final set, winning just seven of 18 points.

    Ferrer moves on to face fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the next round.

    (6) Tomas Berdych def. Kevin Anderson 7-6(5), 7-5

    Sixth seed Tomas Berdych advanced to the final eight following his straight-sets ousting of South Africa's Kevin Anderson. The 27-year-old Czech struck 10 aces en route to a 7-6(5), 7-5 victory in an hour and 53 minutes. Berdych completed the round of 16 effort with 35 of 49 first-service points captured.

    He is scheduled to take on either third seed Andy Murray or 16th seed Gilles Simon for a place in the semifinals.
