    Janowicz beats Querrey, Anderson advances Poland's Jerzy Janowicz made a successful start in Madrid, having upended American Sam Querrey late Monday. He is joined in the second round by South Africa's Kevin Anderson, who ousted Canadian qualifier Jesse Levine.

    Jerzy Janowicz is through to the second round following his straight-sets defeat of American Sam Querrey. The 22-year-old collected 7 aces and a pair of service breaks through an hour and 9 minutes of play. Janowicz completed the opening-round effort with 29 of 33 first-service points captured.

    He moves on to face 6th seed Tomas Berdych in the next round.

    Kevin Anderson def. (Q) Jesse Levine 6-2, 6-2

    Kevin Anderson needed just 53 minutes to dismiss Canadian qualifier Jesse Levine on Monday. The South African tallied 11 aces and four service breaks through to a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Anderson, who held 8 consecutive games during the match, surrendered 5 points on serve.

    He is through to take on either 9th seed Janko Tipsarevic or Juan Monaco for a place in the round of 16.
