    Almagro advances, Istomin downs Malisse Tournament seed Nicolas Almagro is through to the second round after opponent Tobias Kamke retired with injury. The Spaniard is joined by Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin, who defeated veteran Xavier Malisse.

    Eleventh seed Nicolas Almagro passed into the second round after qualifier Tobias Kamke retired with a right-hip injury. The 27-year-old Spaniard had tallied 5 aces before the German called it a day at the 42-minute mark.

    Almagro is through to take on Fabio Fognini or Mikhail Youzhny in the next round.

    Denis Istomin def. (Q) Xavier Malisse 6-3, 6-2

    Denis Istomin advanced to the second round with a straight-sets ousting of Belgian qualifier Xavier Malisse. The 26-year-old converted three of 9 break points en route to a 6-3, 6-2 victory in 65 minutes. Malisse struggled on second serve, winning just 7 of 20 points.

    Istomin is scheduled to face 4th seed David Ferrer in the second round.
