Germany's Daniel Brands continued his hot streak with an defeat of tournament top seed Janko Tipsarevic in quarterfinal action on Friday.
Daniel Brands def. Janko Tipsarevic (1) 6-3, 4-6, 6-4
It is another disappointing result for Serbian No. 2 Janko Tipsarevic. He hasn't won more than 2 matches in a row since the Australian Open and with this match, his two most recent losses have come to players ranked far below him.
Last week in Bucharest, the Serb lost to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (87) and now this defeat at the hands of world No. 69 Daniel Brands seems to suggest a serious slump in form.
Brands has been playing well though, with a quarterfinal showing in Dubai and a quarterfinal in Bucharest last week.
The German was particularly good on serve, smacking 9 aces and facing just 2 break points in the match, one of which cost him the second set.
Brands will take on countryman Philipp Kohlschreiber in the semis.
Tommy Haas (3) def. Florian Mayer 6-4, 6-1
Germany's top player Tommy Haas spent just 58 minutes on court to dispatch compatriot Florian Mayer to earn his spot in Saturday's semifinal.
Haas had put in a three-setter against Ernests Gulbis on Thursday, but his Friday match was a short day at the office. The German served at 72% and broke Mayer's serve 4 times in the brief match.
This win sets up a semifinal showdown with the suddenly on-fire Croat Ivan Dodig.
