Monfils, Rosol roll through Bucharest openers Gael Monfils eases past Filippo Volandri on Tuesday in Bucharest. Monfils is joined in the second round by Lukas Rosol, a straight-set winner over Gilles Muller.

(WC) Gael Monfils d. (LL) Filippo Volandri 6-4, 6-2

A matchup between two players likely nowhere near 100 percent did not result in a level playing field on Tuesday afternoon at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy. Monfils improved to 3-0 lifetime against Volandri with yet another straight-set victory, advancing to the second round after one hour and six minutes of play.

Volandri had retired from his final qualifying match due to a reported illness but got into the main draw as a lucky loser when Fabio Fognini withdrew. The Italian got off to a decent start in this one, but he never recovered after Monfils served out a competitive opening set at 5-4. Three service breaks to Monfils' cause allowed the Frenchman to stroll through the second. Next up for the world No. 105 is Daniel Brands.

    Lukas Rosol d. Gilles Muller 7-6(4), 6-2

Rosol won a first-round clash against Muller for the second time in as many months as the Czech prevailed in one hour and 16 minutes on Tuesday. They just faced each other at the opening stage of the Masters 1000 event in Miami, where Rosol prevailed 7-5, 6-4. He took care of business again thanks to holding all 10 of his service games without facing a single break point.

Muller held throughout the first set to force a tiebreaker, but he promptly succumbed seven points to four. From there it was all over for the 68th-ranked Luxembourgian, who was broken twice in the second--including at 2-5 for a disappointing end to his tournament. Rosol finished with two aces and two double-faults en route to a meeting with No. 3 seed Andreas Seppi.

That's a big win for Rosol folks. Seppi is very good on clay. It looks like Rosol could follow Sod with clay success with his big hitting on slow clay. His DC record on clay is excellent as well. It looks like he's progressing.

Rosol looked tough out there. And Seppi is no pushover anymore.

Sod took out Fed at RG. Maybe Fed should be worried then.
