    4/22/13 7:06 PM | Ricky Dimon
Troicki, Goffin advance at BDR Open Viktor Troicki opens in Bucharest with a straight-set victory over Marinko Matosevic on Monday. Troicki is joined in the second round by David Goffin, a routine winner over Adrian Ungur.

    (8) Viktor Troicki d. Marinko Matosevic 7-6(5), 6-3

Troicki kicked off his BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy campaign by defeating Matosevic in one hour and 36 minutes on Monday. A competitive first set saw Troicki endure a minor hiccup before delivering heroics at the finish line. The eighth-seeded Serb dropped serve for the first time in the match while trying to close out the opener at 5-4. After being pushed to a tiebreaker and battling back from an early mini-break deficit, Troicki played a brilliant defensive point at 6-5 by scrambling all over the court and ultimately forcing Matosevic into an error with a down-the-line forehand.

At that point it appeared to be all over for Matosevic, who disappeared early in set two. The 50th-ranked Australian fell behind 5-0 before finally getting on the scoreboard with a routine service hold. Matosevic even recovered one of the breaks and held again for 3-5, but he could not climb all the way back. Troicki fought off a break point in the final game before converting his second match point with a winning backhand. The world No. 46 now awaits either Tobias Kamke or Paul-Henri Mathieu.

David Goffin d. (WC) Adrian Ungur 6-3, 6-1

Goffin won 10 of the match's last 12 games to roll over Ungur in a mere 55 minutes on Monday afternoon. Ungur, who received a wild card into the main draw as one of Romania's few hopes, held his first two service games for 2-2 but it was downhill from there. Goffin earned his first break for a 3-2 advantage and he was off to the races.

Ungur finally got back on the scoreboard with a love hold down 0-5 in the second, only delaying the inevitable. Goffin wrapped up the proceedings one game later with a love hold of his own. The Belgian recorded three aces and one double-fault on his way to a second-round meeting with either Florian Mayer or Flavio Cipolla.
