  • Losing Murray won't change his clay schedule

    4/19/13 1:19 PM | Johan Lindahl
Losing Murray won't change his clay schedule Andy Murray may be gutted but he won't be changing his pre-ordained clay schedule after crashing out to Swiss Stan Wawrinka in the Monte Carlo Masters.

The Scot said he would not seek a wild card entry into the Barcelona event next week in the Catalan capital where he polished his game as a teenager. Instead, the world No. 3, who will be replaced as second by Roger Federer on Monday, will continue to train in Monte Carlo before heading back to London.

His next appearance is not for more than a fortnight at the Madrid Masters. "It's disappointing, no one wasn't to lose matches like that," Murray said after going down to Wawrinka in less than one hour. "But hopefully I can use it as motivation to improve because I need to do a lot of work.

"Sometimes you can squeeze through matches and not necessarily play well; you don't actually see what's gone wrong because you've won the matches, so you think it's okay. Obviously I'll need to work really hard over the next sort of two weeks to get myself ready for Madrid."

While stern coach Ivan Lendl will surely have not been impressed, Murray knows what he has to work on in the coming days. "I must try and cut down the mistakes and make sure I'm able to dictate more of the points by getting better depth on the ball. I think that will help."
