  • Wawrinka upsets Murray, reaches quarterfinal

    4/18/13 6:27 PM | Kelli DeMario
Wawrinka upsets Murray, reaches quarterfinal Thirteenth seed Stanislas Wawrinka is through to the final eight, having ousted World No. 2 Andy Murray in straight sets. The Swiss moves on to face world No. 8 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the next round.

Thirteenth seed Stanislas Wawrinka advanced to the quarterfinal by virtue of his straight-sets upending of second seed Andy Murray. The Swiss broke serve five times en route to a comprehensive 6-1, 6-2 victory.

"He's an amazing player. He's always tough to beat," Wawrinka commented. "Therefore, to beat Andy that easy was a big surprise, for sure. I'm playing really good, really strong, really confident with my game. I know what he's looking for in his game. He's playing slow, he's playing from the baseline, he's not putting so much pressure. For me on clay, it's perfect."

"I think I just need to try and cut down the mistakes and make sure I'm able to dictate more of the points by getting better depth on the ball," Murray explained. "I think that will help."

Wawrinka completed the 58-minute match with five aces and 80 percent of his first-service points captured.

He is through to take on world No. 8 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the next round.

Why does Muzza need Lendl, he should just listen to Wawa,

"I know what he's looking for in his game. He's playing slow, he's playing from the baseline, he's not putting so much pressure. For me on clay, it's perfect."

Maybe Magnus Norman can do for Stan what he did for Sod.

Pity Fed passed up on an opportunity to snag Norman, could have helped him get one, just one, over Rafa at RG.
