• Wawrinka to work with Magnus Norman

    4/18/13 4:37 AM | Johan Lindahl
Wawrinka to work with Magnus Norman Stanislas Wawrinka will end a year of working on his own as the Swiss No. 17 teams up with former French Open runner-up Magnus Norman for a trial coaching period.

Wawrinka, competing this week at the Monte Carlo Masters, has been without a mentor since parting ways with another Swede, Peter Lundgren, in 2012. Wawrinka has since worked intermittently with Swiss Davis Cup coach Severin Lüthi.

But he appears ready for a more permanent arrangement as he heads into the clay season leading to next month's French Open. Norman last coached compatriot Robin Soderling.

"I've been eager to work with Magnus for many years now and I'm very excited to finally have that opportunity," said Wawrinka. "We will explore our relationship through this test period and I have no doubt it will bear fruit with hard work and dedication.

"I'm excited to learn from his experiences. He is a fantastic coach and was a great player so I only see an upside to this relationship. He most certainly will add a different dimension to my game."

Norman, who runs the Swedish-based Good to Great Tennis Academy, added: "I hope this will be the start of something very good. As always it's important to set the bar high but be humble doing so."
