• Djokovic to give his ankle a go in Monte Carlo

    4/15/13 3:47 AM | Johan Lindahl
Djokovic to give his ankle a go in Monte Carlo Novak Djokovic will take a chance on his damaged right ankle and front up for the Monte Carlo Masters.

The top seed gave himself the all-clear after a light weekend exhibition-promotional hit with Andy Murray in front of the famed Monte Carlo Casino.

The Serb world No. 1 rolled his ankle a week ago as he led his nation into the Davis Cup semi-finals over the US, then flew back to his Monte Carlo base for intensive rehab and treatment after a scan showed no ligament damage. Djokovic takes the top seeding with Murray second and eight-time winner Rafael Nadal third. Roger Federer is skipping the event for a training block and will not be back for another three weeks; David Ferrer is nursing a thigh injury.

Djokovic will surely cop a break thanks to his first-round bye, with a Wednesday start likely to give him extra days of healing.

Nadal has pronounced himself cautiously fit after flying to the principality and getting in several days of hitting on the clay of the Country Club. "After a tough tour and training, the (left) knee has left me more sore than I would have liked,” Nadal told Spanish television. "But in the last few days I am much better, really.”

Nadal, seven-time French Open winner, boasts 35-2 record on clay over the past year as he begins the Roland Garros run-up campaign. His dream scenario would be a sixth career sweep of the Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Rome and French Open series.

No. Novak will announce on Tuesday whether he is going to play or not. I hope - not.

Yes, that's what I have read on other sites. He is practicing and testing the ankle, but won't make a definite decision on playing until Tuesday.

#stale news

Still no tournament thread for MC.

nadline , 4/15/13 9:42 AM

^^A thread will come up once Djokovic confirms he is playing, and the thread will be a prediction of him beating Rafa.

rafaisthebest , 4/15/13 10:04 AM

We don't do a single tournament thread for Masters and Slam events. We evaluate each quarter separately.

Ricky always does a full tournament preview in his blog.
