Isner reaches Houston final Tournament seed John Isner is through to the championship final after ousting fellow seed Juan Monaco in three sets. The American will take on Spain's Nicolas Almagro in Sunday's title match.

Former finalist John Isner advanced to the final match of the tournament, having rallied to upend defending champion Juan Monaco. The 27-year-old American tallied 9 aces en route to a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in two hours and three minutes.

After splitting the first two sets, Isner took a 2-0 edge in the final set. He completed the semifinal win with 71% of his first-service points captured.

"Even though I got creamed in that first set, I felt I was playing pretty well. My serve wasn't really on," Isner explained. "But I was making a lot of returns and so I told myself I was in the match. I just had to try and find a way to break through on his serve. I served smart, got myself out of jams the rest of the match. It was a tight one all the way to the end."

Isner is through to take on top seed Nicolas Almagro for the title.
