Robredo, Anderson reach Casablanca semifinals Tommy Robredo takes out Benoit Paire in three sets on Friday in Casablanca. Robredo is joined in the quarterfinals by Kevin Anderson who defeated Grega Zemlja in straight sets.

    Tommy Robredo d. (4) Benoit Paire 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-0

Robredo booked a spot in the Grand Prix Hassan II semifinals by beating Paire in one hour and 50 minutes to kick off play on Friday afternoon. Paire had chances to earn his place alongside friend and doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka in the last four, but a tight first set contributed to his undoing. The 33rd-ranked Frenchman had set points with his opponent serving at both 4-5 and 5-6 only to squander the opportunities. Robredo managed to force a tiebreaker then cruised through it seven points to four.

Paire recovered to completely dominate the second, in which he dropped a mere three points in four service games. Robredo donated serve twice and almost did so again to start the third, but that game proved to be the turning point. Paire faltered on two break points and was never the same thereafter. Robredo capitalized on a complete collapse by the No. 4 seed and he did not lose a single game in the decider. Next up for the 30-year-old Spaniard is Wawrinka, who handled Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-1, 6-2.

    (2) Kevin Anderson d. (8) Grega Zemlja 6-4, 6-4

Anderson fired seven aces and held off a late charge by Zemlja to advance through this quarterfinal encounter after one hour and 29 minutes. The 29th-ranked South African won 14 of 15 first-serve points in the opening set and saved all four of the break points he faced. One break of his owned allowed Anderson to serve things out at 5-4.

Zemlja appeared to be on a fast track to Monte-Carlo qualifying when he donated serve twice more in the second and fell behind 5-2. For the first time all day, however, the 55th-ranked Slovenian broke Anderson then successfully served to stay in the match at 3-5. Zemlja saved three match points in the final game and even had a break chance, but Anderson fought it off and clinched victory on his fourth match point with an overhead smash. Casablanca's No. 2 seed awaits either Martin Klizan or Robin Haase on Saturday.
