  • Tsonga joins the Queen's Club grass field

    4/11/13 10:57 PM | Johan Lindahl
Tsonga joins the Queen's Club grass field Former finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be back for another go at the trophy when he plays the Queen's club event this summer, the prime tuneup for Wimbledon.

The Frenchman will join a field headed by Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych and Juan Martin Del Potro.

"Queen's is what tennis is all about," read a Tsonga statement. "It is full of history. For me you can not have a better tennis tournament. It's a special place.

"I entered the Top 100 for the first time at Queen's (2007) when I beat Lleyton Hewitt, who was the defending champion. It's a pleasure to be there. I've always played well on grass, I expect to win tournaments on it, so we will see what happens at Queen's and at Wimbledon."

No. 8 Tsonga will have the Anglo benefit of new Australian coach Roger Rasheed, former coach of Hewitt. "Jo has already been to a Grand Slam final (2008 Australian Open) and I believe he's a player that can grab a Grand Slam title," said Rasheed. "The good thing is that he's a player that believes he can win a Grand Slam title, too."

Tsonga knows that if he does well he could end up facing Murray, now ranked second in the world behind Novak Djokovic. "It's great what Murray has achieved and he deserves it, but to play against him is a nightmare!" said Tsonga of the 2009 and 2011 champion. "You feel like the ball is coming back all the time. When I play against him I know I am the outsider, and I will always respect him."
