  • Anderson stops Carreno-Busta's winning streak

    4/11/13 4:49 PM | Ricky Dimon
Anderson stops Carreno-Busta's winning streak Kevin Anderson opens in Casablanca with a win over an in-form Pablo Carreno-Busta. Anderson is through to a quarterfinal encounter with Grega Zemlja.

Kevin Anderson defeated Pablo Carreno-Busta 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the Grand Prix Hassan II on Thursday afternoon. Anderson ended his opponent's 39 match winning streak by advancing to the quarterfinals after one hour and two minutes.

Carreno-Busta had won seven consecutive Futures events plus three matches in Casablanca qualifying before taking out two-time defending champion Pablo Andujar on Tuesday. Against a different-caliber opponent like Anderson, however, the script was flipped right from the start. The 29th-ranked South African dropped a mere one first-serve point in the opening set and broke twice, including at 5-3 to end it.

Set two also saw Carreno-Busta surrender his serve on two different occasions. The 21-year-old Spaniard managed to earn a scalp of Anderson's serve, but he could not make up the deficit. Anderson held comfortably at 5-3 to wrap up the proceedings.

The No. 2 seed fired eight aces without double-faulting while winning 85 percent of his first-serve points. Next up for Anderson for a spot in the semis is Grega Zemlja, a 7-6(5), 6-1 winner over Henri Laaksonen.

^^^ hahahahhaa.

As much as I enjoy photos of Bjorn Borg, I had to change it. Sorry folks. It appears our database is a tad short on photos of PCB and we only have one of Kevin Anderson...so you all get a generic "clay court" photo!

I could draw you a picture of him if you like. (For a small fee of course) Better still, just get one of the Big Berd and touch up the hair.
