Bernard Tomic's weekend wins in both of his single rubbers to insure Australia a place in the Davis Cup World Group playoffs has returned the one-time bad boy to the good side of captain Patrick Rafter.
Tomic has had a chequered past in the team competition after spats with authorities and a recent feud - now buried - with Rafter. Tomic made himself available at the last minute for the weekend group tie in which the Aussies beat Uzbekistan 3-1. They now have the chance to return to the elite level of the Cup with a win in September against an opponent yet to be named.
"It's a huge thing for me to get back in the team," Tomic told Australian media. "To win today and on Friday is huge and I'm happy I played the way I did. We worked hard the week before with the boys as a team and I think that's what got the best out of me here."
Rafter was also happy to have his best next-gen player back onside. "He's still got a way to go and he knows it too but he's made inroads and that's the important thing," said the captain. "He tried hard and we've got to make sure he keeps on improving."
Australia has failed four times in recent seasons to return to the World Group, a blow in prestige to the 28-times champions. They will find out their September opponents soon enough after the draw in London.
