Visiting Serbia is without Janko Tipsarevic for second-round Davis Cup action against the United States, but Novak Djokovic is on board. Team USA is led by Sam Querrey, John Isner, and the Bryan Brothers.
Serbia will continue its bid for a second Davis Cup title when it visits the United States in Boise, Idaho this weekend. The Serbs previously prevailed in 2010 before a semifinal showing in 2011 and a quarterfinal finish last year.
They were missing world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in their 2012 defeat at the hands of the eventual champion Czech Republic, and this time around they are without Janko Tipsarevic. Slumping and likely not 100 percent physically, Tipsarevic opted for rest and clay-court preparation over Davis Cup participation. Djokovic, however, is back on board to lead a side that also includes Viktor Troicki, Nenad Zimonjic, and Illija Bozoljac.
The Americans have hoisted the Davis Cup a record 32 times, but they have not triumphed since 2008 and this is not one of their best teams--to put it mildly. Sam Querrey tops the American chart at No. 20 in the world and a reeling John Isner is three places behind. What Team USA does boast, though, is arguably the best Davis Cup doubles team in history. Bob Bryan is 21-3 lifetime in Davis Cup doubles rubbers and and Mike Bryan is 22-3.
If the hosts want to advance, they likely have to take the doubles point and beat Troicki twice in singles. Querrey beat Djokovic last fall in Paris, but the Serb hardly showed interest in that event at the end of a long season and nothing suggests that either Querrey or Isner can topple him this weekend.
