  • Stepanek making quiet return to Davis Cup

    3/29/13 3:49 AM | Johan Lindahl
Stepanek making quiet return to Davis Cup The dynamic duo which won the Davis Cup for the Czech Republic last December over Spain in Prague will not re-combine for the upcoming quarter-final against Kazakhstan.

But Radek Stepanek will be available for doubles duty after recovering from neck surgery in late January. The 34-year-old, who last played in the Australian Open third round in mid-January, has been chosen for the championships side.

He is likely to team up again with Tomas Berdych - the pair played all five ties of the final four months ago - for the April 5-7 Davis tie on indoor clay in Astana.

Czech captain Jaroslav Navratil is holding his options open, with the practise timetable dependent on how long Berdych lasts as the Miami Masters wraps up. Also on the squad: Jan Hajek, Ivo Minar and Lukas Rosol. Kazakhstan was the last team that beat the Czechs two years ago in the first round.
