• Ferrer breezes past Nishikori for quarterfinal spot

Ferrer breezes past Nishikori for quarterfinal spot David Ferrer continued his march towards the Miami final weekend with a victory over Japan's Kei Nishikori.

Spanish veteran David Ferrer showed why he's ranked in the top 5 with an easy 6-4, 6-2 over young gun Kei Nishikori.

Ferrer, who has been a fixture in the top 10 for years, carved out a place for himself among the top of the game with his consistency off the ground, his superior movement and fitness and especially with his success on the return.

His Tuesday match against Nishikori was not Ferrer at his best, but he didn't need to be at his best to roll over Nishikori. The Japanese man could not stand up under the weight of the Ferrer return. Ferrer secured 4 breaks of serve in the brief encounter, surrendering just one of his own serves.

The Spaniard will take the No. 4 ranking back from compatriot Rafael Nadal following his performance this week. Ferrer will take on Austrian veteran Jurgen Melzer in the quarters.
