• Melzer takes on Ramos in wide-open section in Miami

    3/26/13 1:30 PM | Cheryl Murray
Melzer takes on Ramos in wide-open section in Miami Jurgen Melzer and Albert Ramos will have the opportunity to make the quarterfinals of a Masters event, as the two men do battle in Tuesday's round of 16.

Juan Martin Del Potro was seeded to get through to the round of 16, but the Argentine lost early among concerns of another wrist-injury flare-up and in his place is Jurgen Melzer, the Austrian veteran.

The other portion of this section held Juan Monaco, but the Argentine and No. 12 seed is largely a clay-court specialist and his early loss was less of an upset.

Melzer, who sits at No. 42 in the world, has never played Ramos. The Austrian comes into Miami off a Challenger win in Dallas which improved his ranking 8 spots this week. Ramos had an abbreviated hardcourt run, with a single win in Indian Wells before losing to Horacio Zeballos in the second round.

Despite his success this week, Ramos is a better player on clay than he is on hardcourt. This should be a great chance for Melzer to get into the quarters.
