    Davydenko, Hewitt advance to round two Former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko is through to the second round after holding on to defeat Paolo Lorenzi in three sets. The Russian is joined by former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, who beat Joao Sousa in straight sets.

    Former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt made a successful start in Miami, having ousted Portugal’s Joao Sousa in straight sets. The 32-year-old Australian tallied 11 aces and five service breaks through one hour and 47 minutes of play. Hewitt completed the effort with 31 of 44 first-service points captured.

    He will take on 11th seed Gilles Simon in the second round.

    Nikolay Davydenko def. Paolo Lorenzi 6-0, 2-6, 6-0

    Former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko advanced to the second round by virtue of his three-sets ousting of Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi. The veteran Russian converted six of 10 break points en route to a 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 victory in 91 minutes. Lorenzi struggled with the second serve, winning just 10 of 30 points.

    Davydenko is scheduled to face 19th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov in the next round.
