  • Del Potro to return to Queen's for Wimbledon prep

    3/20/13 11:39 AM | Johan Lindahl
Del Potro to return to Queen's for Wimbledon prep Indian Wells finalist Juan Martin Del Potro will tune-up for Wimbledon for the third time at Queen's club as the Argentine joins home favourite Andy Murray and No. 6 Thomas Berdych in the grass-court field.

The announcement came in the wake of the Argentine's Indian Wells final against Rafael Nadal, won by the Spaniard. "I like to play on grass, and at Queen's you feel like you are at home," said seventh-ranked Del Potro, who competed at the event in 2007 and 2011.

The South American is also carrying memories of an Olympic bronze medal last on the surface at Wimbledon last summer. "I have a fantastic memory from last year when I won the bronze medal at the Olympics. It was a magnificent experience for me.

"I had never played at an Olympics before so it was a big moment for me and my country. To win on grass at Wimbledon as well made it an even bigger moment. I think that if I play my best tennis I have a chance to win a Grand Slam tournament on grass, but it will be very difficult."

Del Potro knows he will have a tough ask to win Queen's ahead of Murray. "He is a big champion, he's already won a Grand Slam (a US Open, like Del Potro), he made the finals in Australia and he has everything he needs to be at the top in the future. He will be fighting for the No.1 place this year and he can take a big opportunity in the grass season."

Whoa stunner alert! Kamke takes out Delpo. Kamke was very good but it seems Delpo left his holy water in the Palm Springs desert. No energy after 9 hours of tennis over 3 days in the the desert sun.
