Third seed Andy Murray is through to the third round after rallying to upend Russia's Evgeny Donskoy in three sets. The 25-year-old Scot converted six of 16 break points en route to a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory in two hours and 17 minutes.

After leveling the match at a set apiece, Murray broke to 2-0 and 4-1 in the final set. The third seed, who won his first contest at the tournament since 2010, fought off four break points serving for the match at 5-2.

Rusty first set not surprising. A win's a win after a month out. Go muzz!

Round of 32 next, no?

Murray always starts slow but somehow he'll get the job done. Donskoy reminds me of Gulbis, the way he strikes the ball but I know he's too inexperienced to beat a top four guy. I'm hoping to see Murray/Delpo and Nole/Tsonga QFs and then Murray/Nole SF, so hopefully all of them come through.

Typical "early round Andy" came out rusty against a match hot, big hitter. But was pleased with the way Andy played from second set in - gorgeous variety, majestic forehands and lush backhands dtl and cc.
Didn't get cross and lose it either, like us fans have seen before.
Come on :)

luckystar hit the nail on the head; Donskoy's inexperience lost him the match and he made far too many UEs.

nadline , 3/11/13 9:25 AM

^^Andy Murray made him lose the match actually lol
Onwards & Upwards!

Twinge , 3/11/13 10:56 AM

Right on Twingey, Andy had never played D. before and he was obviously tight, but once he settled and figured out what to do, he had D's number. Why did D start sending all the balls out of court, it's because Andy forces opponents to go for the lines, not rocket science.
Let's give Andy some credit here for goodness sakes.
BTW D has a very ropey backhand, once Andy started to target that, D started losing. Gotta address that.

I was under no illusions that Andy would win in the end even when he was trailing D 1:5 in the first set. D just didn't seem secure enough in his shots but Andy was definitely playing badly in that 1st set. Mclagan says it's down to nerves that Andy often plays badly in the rounds.

^^^opening rounds

nadline , 3/11/13 2:38 PM

^^Yes yes nadline..
Actually Deuce, if Andy gets to the final here he becomes World Number 2 does he not?
Only if Roger can defend his title, i think, can he stop this from happening.

Twinge , 3/11/13 2:55 PM

OoohTwingey...soo exciting. My money's on Nole, who would bet against him?
BTW believe you are Oliver Hardy to my Stan Laurel......;)

deuce , 3/11/13 4:53 PM

"BTW believe you are Oliver Hardy to my Stan Laurel....."

I thought more along the lines of bonnie and clyde Deuce, better visuals at least.
My Money is on Andy for this title, its windy here and well, Andy has learned to cope with that much better than the last time it was swirling about against Rafa, no one can deny that one.
I suppose Novak is the favourite but really its no good Novak winning absolutely everything again is it?
The court is slow but Andy can do slow nearly as well.
Anyway they both have to get to the semis first.
Lets see how he fares against (probably) delpo first.

Keep counting your chickens before they are hatched.

nadline , 3/12/13 6:05 PM

lol that's rich coming from you.
Obviously you can't read either. I did say lets see how he fares against Delpo did I not?
Oh wait Nadal is going to win isn't he?
But maybe not as he is recovering from injury but if he wasn't, well no one can beat him otherwise.
etc blah blah blah
oh & BORE OFF!

Twinge , 3/12/13 6:17 PM

Who said I was talking about you? I have never said Rafa would win anything.

nadline , 3/12/13 6:31 PM

er the fact that you posted directly underneath my comment, or perhaps you meant Deuce who keeps on counting her chickens? or Lucky? Work with me Nags as we are already running out of posters on this thread.

Twinge, you need to go to bed and get some beauty sleep because Andy is not on before 2am GMT.
