World No. 7 Juan Martin Del Potro made the round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open, having ousted former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets. The Argentine is through to take on veteran Bjorn Phau in the next round.
World No. 7 Juan Martin Del Potro advanced to the third round with a three-sets dismissal of former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko. The 24-year-old Argentine tallied 7 aces and four service breaks through to a 6-3, 6-4, 79-minute victory.
Del Potro rallied from a 0-2 deficit in the first set and a 1-3 hole in the second. The World No. 7 leveled to 3-3 in set two, then secured a key service break at 3-3. Del Potro ended the second-round match with 29 of 35 first-service points won.
He is through to take on Germany's Bjorn Phau in the next round. The veteran upset 25th seed Jeremy Chardy in the second round, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
