Karlovic saves one match point to overcome Sock Ivo Karlovic comes back from the brink of defeat to beat Jack Sock on Friday in Indian Wells. Karlovic is through to a second-round meeting with Sam Querrey.

Ivo Karlovic survived Jack Sock 3-6, 7-6(8), 6-2 in round one of the the BNP Paribas Open on Friday afternoon. Karlovic fired 12 aces and saved one match point before prevailing in one hour and 52 minutes.

The opening set progressed in straightforward fashion, with Karlovic serving horribly and donating one service game to his opponent. Sock, on the other hand, dominated when he toed the line and he lost a mere two points on serve.

Both players held throughout a far more dramatic second, in which Sock had plenty of chances. The 20-year-old American again did not face a break point and he earned one chance to scalp the Karlovic serve. Karlovic, though, managed to force a tiebreaker. Sock soon found himself with a match point at 8-7, but the 6'10'' Croat fought it off on his own serve and won the next two points to steal the set.

From there it was all over for a dispirited Sock. The world No. 125 surrendered serve twice in the third and won only two return points. Karlovic completed the comeback win with an easy hold at 5-2, setting up a meeting with Sam Querrey.
