Tomas Berdych is shifting away from with longtime global clothing sponsor Nike and has paired up with trendy Swedish retailer H&M for his shorts and shirts.
One of the quietest of the top 10 players will now be responsible for helping to promote a new clothing line named in his honour.
While the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova can move merchandise in world-class quantities, the understated Czech could be a huge marketing question mark. Never the most charismatic on the court, Berdych may now find himself fulfilling more public roles for his new sponsor which is dipping corporate toes into tennis for the first time.
"It will be my personal line, which will be ready in the summer," said the ATP No. 6, who added that he has not broken with Nike, who will supply his shoes as per usual. "This is not a brand that's going to be making any shoes. There are other contracts like this, including (world No. 1 Novak) Djokovic with (Japan's) Uniqlo. I will definitely stay with the shoes that I'm used to."
