Defending champion David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro tore through the first round on Tuesday at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel.
David Ferrer (1) def. Antonio Veic 6-0, 6-3
Top seed David Ferrer spent just over an hour on court in his straight set demolition of Antonio Veic, who replaced Albert Ramos in the draw as a lucky loser. Unfortunately for the Croat, his luck didn't last long.
Ferrer was in destruction mode especially in the first set. The Spaniard quickly racked up three service breaks to hand Veic a first-set bagel. He wasn't quite as dominant in the second, but an early break paved the way for the easy victory.
Ferrer will take on American qualifier Wayne Odesnik in the second round.
Nicolas Almagro (3) def. Cesar Ramirez 6-0, 6-1
Mexican wildcard Cesar Ramirez barely made a match of it against No. 3 seed Nicolas Almagro. The two men spent just 50 minutes on court in the straight-set rout. With just one service hold in both sets, Ramirez showed that he is not ready for the main tour. He spends most of his year on the Futures tour.
Almagro will take on countryman Tommy Robredo in the second round.
