Querrey advances in Delray Beach, Dodig downs Dolgopolov Sam Querrey gets a second-set retirement from Michael Russell on Monday in Delray Beach. Querrey is joined in the second round by Ivan Dodig, who stormed past Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets.

    (3) Sam Querrey d. Michael Russell 6-2, 2-2, retired

Querrey got a free pass into round two of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships on Monday night when Russell retired after just 44 minutes. Russell was hobbled throughout the match and took an injury timeout before his opponent served for the first set 5-2. The 34-year-old American managed to hold his two service games in the second, but he called it quits after Querrey evened the score at 2-2.

This week's No. 3 seed finished the abbreviated encounter with nine aces and one double-fault. He saved the only break point he faced and converted one of his two chances. Next up for Querrey is either fellow American James Blake or qualifier Ernests Gulbis.

    Ivan Dodig d. (5) Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3, 6-3

Dodig went on a nine-game winning streak in the middle of the match and won 12 of the last 15 games to upset Dodig in a mere 57 minutes on Monday evening. Dolgopolov got off to a fast start by sprinting to a 3-0 lead in the first set, but it was all Dodig the rest of the way. The Croat won six in a row to end the opener then raced to a 3-0 advantage of his own in set two.

Dolgopolov finally got back on the scoreboard and held each of his final three service games, but it was too little too late. The 23rd-ranked Ukrainian had no chance against his opponent's serve in the second, winning only six points in five return games. Dodig served out the proceedings with ease at 5-3 to book a meeting with Evgeny Donskoy. The world No. 62 wrapped up his effort with four aces while converting all four of his break chances.
