Defending champion Roger Federer is safely through to the second round at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after rallying to defeat wildcard Malek Jaziri.
World No. 2 Roger Federer made a successful start to his Dubai title defense, having rallied to oust wildcard Malek Jaziri late Monday. The 31-year-old Swiss struck 10 aces en route to a 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 victory in 90 minutes.
After dropping the opening set, Federer won 7 consecutive games to 1-0 in the final set. The defending champion took a critical break to 4-2 before reaching triple match point at 5-2. Federer missed the first two chances to close, then converted the third as Jaziri hit a forehand wide.
Federer ended the match with 30 of 36 first-service points captured.
He will take on either Albert Montanes or Marcel Granollers in the second round.
