World No. 4 David Ferrer made a successful start to his title defense with a straight-sets ousting of Argentine wildcard Agustin Velotti. The Spaniard is joined in round two by David Nalbandian, who defeated Carlos Berlocq.

Top seed David Ferrer is through to the second round after beating wildcard Agustin Velotti early Wednesday. The defending champion converted four of 11 break points en route to a 6-4, 6-1 victory in an hour and 19 minutes. Velotti struggled with his second serve, winning just nine of 26 points.
Ferrer will take on former world No. 3 David Nalbandian for a place in the quarterfinal.

Brasil Open finalist David Nalbandian advanced to the second round after holding off fellow Argentine Carlos Berlocq in three sets. The 31-year-old veteran converted five of 10 break points through an hour and 54 minutes of play. With the match level at a set apiece, Nalbandian broke to 5-3 in the deciding set.
