Ferrer set for title defense in Buenos Aires World No. 4 David Ferrer makes his return to competition as the ATP World Tour heads to Buenos Aires, Argentina for the 2013 Copa Claro. The defending champion is set to enter the 32-player draw as the top seed.

World No. 4 David Ferrer is back on court after reaching the final four at the Australian Open. The 30-year-old Spaniard has compiled a 12-2 season record, bolstered by a title-winning run at the Heineken Open.

Ferrer secured his first Copa Claro title with a come-from-behind victory over Spain’s Nicolas Almagro in last year’s final. The top seed headlines a tricky half of the draw that includes (4) Thomaz Bellucci, (5) VTR Open winner Horacio Zeballos and (6) Fabio Fognini.

Additional players in the section are Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, Guilermo Garcia-Lopez, Tommy Robredo, Martin Alund, Aljaz Bedene and Brasil Open finalist David Nalbandian.

Ferrer is scheduled to open his title defense against wildcard Agustin Velotti or Carlos Berlocq.

Former Buenos Aires champion Nicolas Almagro leads the bottom half of the draw alongside fellow seeds (3) Stanislas Wawrinka, (7) Pablo Andujar (8) Albert Ramos. Other combatants in the same half are Albert Montanes, Joao Souza, wildcard Federico Delbonis, Flavio Cipolla, Andrey Kuznetsov, Simone Bolelli, Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Paolo Lorenzi.

Almagro will kick off his campaign against either Guido Pella.
