Juan Martin Del Potro held off Julien Benneteau to win his first title of the year in Rotterdam.
Juan Martin Del Potro is in with his first title of the 2013 season. The Argentine, who came up one win short of the crowd in the 2012 edition of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament at the hands of Roger Federer, overcame Frenchman Julien Benneteau and a late match nose bleed to capture the trophy with a 7-6(2), 6-3 scoreline.
The first set was a strange affair, with Del Potro first taking and then giving up a commanding lead. Benneteau came storming back, only to find himself without the goods to finish off the tiebreaker.
Del Potro once again strode out to an early lead in the second set, and Benneteau even saved match points on serve at 2-5, but it was too little too late for the Frenchman.
With his nose bleeding, Del Potro served out the match at 5-3 to give Benneteau an unfortunate 0-8 record in tour-level finals.
