Julien Benneteau defeated countryman Gilles Simon to earn a spot opposite Juan Martin Del Potro on Sunday.
Julien Benneteau is on a tear in Rotterdam. The French veteran had the win of his career in the quarterfinals, defeating top seed and defending champion Roger Federer, and he followed that up with a solid 6-4, 7-6(2) win.
This wasn't Gilles Simon at his best. The Frenchman looked a little wilted by the end of the second set, which compromised his ability to retrieve, but despite not playing particularly well, Simon stuck it out and even treated the fans to some spectacular points.
In the end though, Benneteau's pace of shot was too much for Simon to handle. Benneteau finished the match with five aces, one double-fault and two breaks of the Simon serve.
