Defending champion Roger Federer will take on Julien Benneteau on quarterfinal day at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.
Roger Federer (1) vs. Julien Benneteau
At last year's Wimbledon, Frenchman Julien Benneteau was a few points away from dispatching Roger Federer in the third round. Federer prevailed in the end in five sets. When they met again a few weeks later at the London Olympics, Federer won in easy straight sets.
Federer is perhaps better indoors than he is even on grass. And while Benneteau is good on faster surfaces, he has never had Federer's consistency or creativity on court. Federer will be the overwhelming favorite, though Benneteau is capable of making a match of it.
Prediction - Federer in straight sets.
Gilles Simon (5) vs. Martin Klizan
Martin Klizan of Slovakia had a favorable draw to the quarterfinals. Igor Sijsling obliged by taking out Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first round, so that Klizan's path has been seed-free until this point. This is his best result of 2013, which has been dismal for the most part.
Frenchman Gilles Simon is not exactly known for his prowess on fast indoor courts, but he is consistent off the baseline and a good enough retriever to have cemented a place in the top 20 (currently No. 14 in the world).
Prediction - Simon should advance to the semis.
