Richard Gasquet defeated Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in three sets to advance to Sunday's final against Benoit Paire.
France's Richard Gasquet continued to add to his impressive 2013 record with a win over Jarkko Nieminen to earn a spot in the Montpellier final. Gasquet already won a title this year, with a run to the crown in Doha. Should he defeat Benoit Paire on Sunday, he'll become the first player of the year to take two titles.
Nieminen, as he often does, put up a fight before going down 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. He gave up a pair of break points in the first set, but he turned the tables on Gasquet in the second. The good news for the Gasquet camp is that he has proven himself strong mentally in deciding sets so far this season.
Gasquet has won all three of his matches this week in three sets after dropping the middle set. Holding his nerve has sometimes been a problem for Gasquet, but he appears to have finally conquered that issue.
The Frenchman finished the match with eight aces and two double-faults. He will take the court on Sunday against Paire.
