Cilic wins third title in Zagreb World No. 12 Marin Cilic captured his 9th ATP World Tour title on Sunday, ousting veteran Jurgen Melzer in straight sets. By virtue of his finals success, the top seed is three times a champion at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors.

World No. 12 Marin Cilic sealed a title-winning run at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors with a comprehensive defeat of former World No. 8 Jurgen Melzer. The 24-year-old Croatian came through the 6-3, 6-1. 67-minute match without facing a break point.

After winning three consecutive games from 3-3 in the first set, Cilic broke the Melzer serve at 1-1 and 3-1 in the second.

"Most of my game was working extremely well," Cilic commented. "My returns were really good and I had a read on almost all of his serves. I took my chances and defended well. Overall, I played a great match from beginning to the end."

Cilic completed the championship effort with eight aces, four of 12 break points converted and just eight points surrendered on serve.

"He was the better player today," Melzer explained. "I needed it to be close at 4-all, 5-all in the first set to give me confidence. That didn’t happen and he ran away with it. I felt like I was hitting the ball really well at the beginning, but he hit the ball even better.

"What made the difference in the first few games is that he had free points on serve, whereas I had to work for them: hit a winner or play well so he missed. He deserved the victory."
