Richard Gasquet will take on countryman Julien Benneteau for a spot in Saturday's semifinals in Montpellier.
World No. 10 Richard Gasquet had a good win in the second round over countryman Gael Monfils, who is on the comeback trail after a lengthy injury absence. He will get the opportunity to take on another compatriot in the Friday's featured evening match in the South of France.
Gasquet and Benneteau have met just twice on the ATP circuit and twice way back in 2001 when both were still slogging away on the Challenger circuit. Benneteau nabbed Gasquet when they were younger, but their two meetings on the main tour were won by Gasquet, the last of which came in 2010. Both meetings came on hard court and the world No. 10 won both in straight sets.
Benneteau has had a decent start to the 2013 season, with a semifinal showing in Sydney and a less impressive third round ouster at the Australian Open.
Gasquet's year has been more encouraging. He won his first event of the season straight away in Doha and made the round of 16 at the Australian Open, where he went out to another countryman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. In fact, Gasquet has lost just that one match so far in 2013, a good sign for things to come.
Prediction - Gasquet for the win in 3.
