Paolo Lorenzi remains in fine form with a straight-set victory over Tommy Robredo on Thursday in Vina del Mar. Lorenzi joins Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.
Paolo Lorenzi held all 10 of his service games to defeat Tommy Robredo 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of the VTR Open on Thursday afternoon. Lorenzi saved both of the break points he faced before advancing in one hour and 29 minutes.
The 31-year-old Italian completely dominated on serve throughout the first set. He dropped only six points in five service games, so one break of his own allowed him to close it out with a routine hold at 5-4.
Robredo finally earned two break chances early in the second, but the world No. 102 could not convert. Having maintained the momentum, Lorenzi snagged a break midway through the set and delivered another clutch hold at 5-4.
Vina del Mar's No. 6 seed struck four aces without double-faulting while serving at 72 percent. He booked a place in the quarterfinals and is one round away from a potential semifinal showdown against top-seeded Rafael Nadal.
