Gael Monfils and countryman Richard Gasquet will meet in an intriguing second-round match in front of the home crowd as the field in Montpellier finishes the second round.
Due to a series of injuries, Gael Monfils was sidelined for the better part of the 2012 season. As a result, the Frenchman is ranked outside the top 100 at No. 108. Unfortunately for Richard Gasquet, Monfils is not your typical 108th-ranked player.
He already made strides in 2013, reaching a quarterfinal in Doha and a semi in Auckland. As long as his body holds up, he will bound back up the ranking.
Gasquet is ranked 10th in the world who has also had a fantastic start to the season. The 26-year-old won his first event of the season in Doha and made a respectable showing at the Australian Open where he reached the round of 16.
Monfils leads the head-to-head with an slight 4-3 advantage over his countryman. Monfils' ranking will likely have little effect on the outcome of the match. Expect a battle royale, with Monfils just barely edging out Gasquet for the win.
