(3) Mikhail Youzhny def. Igor Sijsling 6-3, 6-2
Defending champion Mikhail Youzhny is through to the round of 16 after defeating Dutchman Igor Sijsling in straight sets. The veteran Russian held nine of nine service games through to a 6-3, 6-2 victory in 69 minutes. Youzhny ended the match with five aces and three of 11 break points converted.
He will take on Croatia's Ivan Dodig for a place in the quarterfinals.
(6) Marcos Baghdatis def. Tobias Kamke 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-4
Sixth seed Marcos Baghdatis advanced to the second round following his come-from-behind win over Germany's Tobias Kamke. The former champion collected 11 aces and a trio of service breaks through two hours and two minutes of play. Baghdatis completed the opening-round effort with 43 of 48 first-service points captured.
“Basically, I was a bit surprised the way Tobias played today,” Baghdatis commented. “He was really aggressive and he was taking the ball very early. I had some problems dictating the points. Whenever I was serving, I was dictating the game very well. I served pretty well. His first serve is tricky. He hits the ball very flat and in these conditions, indoors, it’s tough to take him out of position.”
He is scheduled to meet Blaz Kavcic in the next round.
