With Croatia down 2-1 thanks to a win from the Italian doubles team, Marin Cilic will fight Andreas Seppi in a do-or-die rubber for the Croat side.
Andreas Seppi and Marin Cilic are no strangers to each other on a tennis court. The two men have met nine times, including an encounter a couple of weeks ago at the Australian Open, which Seppi won in a five-setter. Over all Cilic has a very slight head-to-head edge over the Italian, winning five of their nine previous matches.
Cilic would ordinarily be considered the favorite, but they are playing on a clay court in Italy, all of which swing the advantage in Seppi's direction. In addition, the Italian just defeated Cilic on hard courts, which is a much better surface for the Croat.
Cilic did have a fairly recent win on clay over Seppi, but that was on Cilic's turf in Zagreb and it was back in 2010.
Prediction - Italy to seal the win.
