Marcel Granollers, the anchor of the Spanish team in this first round Davis Cup tie against Cananda, will clash with Canada's No. 2 singles candidate Frank Dancevic in the second of Friday's rubbers in Vancouver.
World No. 34 Marcel Granollers should begin his 2013 Davis Cup campaign in successful fashion. The Spaniard faces Canadian Frank Dancevic, a player who has not yet managed to qualify for a main tour event in 2013. The Canadian lost in the first round of qualifying at the Australian Open, but followed that up with a quarterfinal showing at the Heilbronn Challenger event in Germany.
Granollers is generally a consistent player, with 3 wins to his name this season so far. The Spaniard is actually somewhat known as a doubles specialist, with an impressive ranking of No. 5 in the world with partner Marc Lopez, but he still has success on the singles circuit as well.
Dancevic is decidedly the weak link on the Canadian team, with Milos Raonic leading the charge for the home team. Dancevic will have the support of the crowd, but he is wildly inconsistent from the baseline and is likely to have difficulty with Granollers' steady game, even on Friday's faster indoor surface.
Prediction - Granollers to give Spain a win in straight sets.
