  • Murray seals semifinal, Federer next

Murray seals semifinal, Federer next World No. 3 Andy Murray continued his bid for a second major title with a straight-set ousting of France's Jeremy Chardy. The Scot is through to take on world No. 2 Roger Federer, who defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in five sets.

Third seed Andy Murray cruised into the semifinal with a three-sets dismissal of unseeded Jeremy Chardy. The 25-year-old Scot converted eight of 11 break points en route to a 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 victory in 111 minutes.

"I think you have to trust yourself that, when you are tested, you're going to play better tennis," Murray commented. "You never know for sure. But in the build-up to the tournament I played very well. I haven't lost a set here yet. So maybe I'm expecting to play too well or whatever.

"But I've done a good job so far in this tournament. I can't be disappointed with where my game's at. And I hope the next round I play better again."

Murray led by a double break at 4-0 in the opening set and 4-1 in the second. The world No. 3 continued the effort with a trio of service breaks in the third. Murray ended the quarterfinal with 32 winners and 7 aces.

"I feel probably a little bit calmer maybe than usual," Murray explained. "But I still have an understanding of how difficult it is to win these events. With the players that are still left in the tournament, it's going to be a very tough, tough few days if I want to do that. So I'll just stay focused, work hard in my next couple of practice sessions, and hope I can finish the tournament well."

Murray is slated to meet world No. 2 Roger Federer for a place in the championship. The veteran held on to defeat world No. 8 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals, 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3.
